Salmon Cloth Boards with gilt titles to spine, blind impressed to upper board and gilt blocked illustrations to spine and upper board.225 x 150 mm approx. xii + 274 pp + 2pp of publisher's adverts. Frontis with tissue guard 31 b/w photos, double page colour cartoon drawing by Sir Frank Lockwood + all other drawings/reproductions as called for.First Edition 1st printing 1914. Born Alfred Hardy, he assumed by Royal licence the additional surname of Gathorne in 1878 like the rest of his family. The same year he was elected to the House of Commons for Canterbury, a seat he held until 1880, when the constituency was suspended. He returned to Parliament in 1886 when he was returned for East Grinstead, and continued to represent this constituency until 1895. (Wikipedia). The book is a recollection of his hunting and fishing holidays including the Hebrides- Colonsay, Sark, Norway- in the 1860's - Hvilested, Todal, Lilledal, Alfheim + reminiscences of early life in Kent and latterly his home at Donnington Priory, Berks. VG (Book- A little uneven sun fading, no notable shelf wear or soiling. Offset browning to end papers, with gift insc. in ink to front free end paper.
