Green cloth boards with gilt titles to spine, 220 x 145 mm approx. 310 pp. Autobiography of the journalist Alaric Jacob, who worked as a Reuters and War correspondent and for the BBC Written at the age of 42 it is described on wikipedia as a semi- autobiographical novel and apologia for the paradoxes and anomalies of his career. The flap fold describes it purely as an autobiography crammed with incidents that remain in the reader's memory to amuse, recapturing the "gay" twenties, a sympathetic portrait of Margot Asquith, vignette of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the war in Russia, his communist admiration etc. The book is now quite uncommon and difficult to source. VG/Good (Book- a little fading to cloth where loss to jacket and light general shelf soiling.No previous owner name, insc. nor annotations. Dust Jacket - colour rubbed and scuffed with loss principally to head and tail of spine of up to 7mm approx. Now in a removable proprietary protective sleeve to which coloured paper has been inserted to mask the stark white of the backing paper so as not to draw the eye on the book shelf.
