SCARCE book which is quite difficult to source. Burgundy Shagrin effect cloth boards with black title label and gilt titles to spine. 230 x 150 mm approx. Yellow made end papers, 276pp + 20pp publisher's catalogue dated June 1863. Published anonymously the book is attributed as being the work of Samuel Dickson 1802-1869 a pioneer in the work of Chron-Thermal Medicine, on treating cholera and other diseases and who crusaded against the practice of blood letting and other now outmoded "cures". The book conveys his feeling of injustice at not receiving recognition for his work and which was claimed by others. (Spectator 11th July 1863). Good (Book- recently re-sewn on three tapes with repaired cuts of up to 90mm approx to first 11 leaves of the book block commencing at the title page and re- cased. NB not one of my best mainly due to the title block extending slightly round the edge of the spine principally due to the absence in my bindery of a font size small enough to accommodate the title and the grain of the book cloth flattened in places due to too much pressure in the nipping press. It is a long and frustrating learning curve! Nevertheless compared to it's dis bound and mal treated state when acquired it is now returned to the market to give many more years of service. Please see our image of the actual book offered for sale.
